Proudest Accomplishment:

Our West Carteret High School 4x800m relay team was ranked 15th going into the 2003 North Carolina State 3A Track and Field Championships, but we placed second overall with a school record time. It was also a highlight to break 16 minutes in the 5k while running solo in a local NC race.

Charlie worked at a remote fisheries research station in Southeast Alaska for three years before coming to Seattle in 2011 to begin a PhD in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington. His research aims to maximize the success of conservation-focused breeding programs and improve the sustainability of wild salmon populations. In addition to running with CNW, Charlie spends his time scuba diving, playing innertube basketball, and dabbling in triathlons.
