2024 CNW XC National Team Elite Team Selection Criteria

Our goal is to field the best possible teams for Nationals. They will represent CNW at the 2024 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships that our club will host Saturday December 14th, at Chambers Creek in Tacoma, WA. Since CNW is hosting on our “home” course, we want this to be the focus for our members in the fall of 2024.

The Teams Committee will define the selection criteria for the men’s and women’s elite teams for the 2024 XC season. Below are the selection criteria for 2024.

All teams will be selected after Regionals which is 3 weeks before Club Nationals. Points for scoring as follows: 1st Place scores 10 points, 2nd 9 points, …, 10th is 1 point.  All finishers in a race will receive 1 point.  DNF scores 0 points. You are scored only versus members of the club in your race and in the same age group. So open runners, 40s, 50s, etc. are all scored separately.

Qualifying meets are WWU Bill Roe, Emerald City, PNTF and Regionals, with points at Regionals counting double. For each team, some positions are chosen by points, while the remaining at large positions are chosen by the selection committee consisting of the team manager, VP of teams, and team captains. In the case of a tie for the last points position(s), the selection committee will choose from among those tied who gets into the team on points (up the available points positions), and the others will be added to the general pool for further consideration.

Note that to be eligible for 2024 A team consideration, an athlete may not run a marathon after October 13, 2024, so athletes have time to recover to compete at a high level at the meet.

Open Athletes:
Open athletes (men and women) compete for 4 positions based on points, and 4 at large positions for a total of 8 positions each for the men’s and women’s open (A) team. Scoring for open athletes will use your best score for 3 out of 4 qualifying meets, with NW Regionals counting double points.

Masters Athletes:
Men’s 40s and 50s athletes compete for 4 positions based on points, and 5 at large positions for a total of 9 positions.

Men's 60s, 70s, and 80s, and women's 40s, 50s, and 60s teams will each consist of 2 positions based on points and 3 at large positions for a total of 5 positions.

For all masters men and women athletes, we will use your best score for 2 out of 4 qualifying meets, with NW Regionals counting double points.

Athletes must have a CNW membership which runs through December 2024 and be racing in uniform to count for a race.  Also, for PNTF Champs, USATF NW Regionals and USATF Club Nationals, current USATF membership is required. Note that USATF rules and CNW policy prohibits an athlete running for two different clubs in the same year. In order to be eligible to run for CNW at Club Nationals, you must list your affiliation as Club Northwest for every USATF race that allows statement of affiliation (cross country, track, and road races).

The Club will pay for entry fees for club members who race Club Nationals.

All athletes will get to keep all their individual and team prize money, except PNTF and NW Regionals team prize money, which is given to the club to fund our cross country teams.

If you have questions, check with your team captains first and they will answer. Then if you need more, email Deborah.
